Fantastic opportunity for state leadership role for the parent of a child/youth who is blind or who has a visual impairment…. WI Department of Public Instruction State Superintendent’s Blind and Visual Impairment Education Council. The role of the Council is to advise the State Superintendent on how to improve educational services for students with visual impairments. The Council meets about 4 times per year in either Madison or Janesville. What is Parents in Partnership? (PIP) is a leadership development opportunity for parents of children
with disabilities. Parents and other caregivers meet together five times during the year to: share their family stories, challenges, joys, and triumphs of raising their children. They will learn about community and statewide resources for children with disabilities; explore issues around health, education, policy making, legislation, inclusion, self-determination, family well-being, and IDEA Special Education Law. The program assists parents in developing: communication skills, leadership skills, positive advocacy skills, collaboration skills, their own Community Action Plan.
*What is Youth in Partnership with Parents for Empowerment? (YiPPE)?* is a leadership
development opportunity for youth with disabilities and their parents to learn about the transition process in a unique way. Youth and their parents will hear from speakers and take part in hands-on activities in parallel programs over
five weekends. The program assists youth ages 15-20to: make decisions for themselves and become as independent as possible, get involved in their school and community, make friends and have fun, become self-advocating and self-determined, learn what the future could hold for them as they think about living on their own, college, work and health. YiPPE assists parents to plan for their youth's future by: enhancing their leadership, communication, and social skills, providing information in the areas of health, employment, education, inclusion, legislation and adult services, connecting them to national, state, and local resources that will help their youth make a smoother transition.

BPDD covers all costs associated with the program, including the training, lodging, meals, and materials.
Facilitated by Lynn Breedlove, former Executive Director of Disability Rights Wisconsin, and Lisa Pugh, Public Policy Coordinator with the Wisconsin Disability Policy Partnership, which includes Disability Rights Wisconsin, the Waisman Center, and BPDD.

Inclusa is seeking volunteers to serve on its Quality Committee. CCCW is a Family Care Managed Care Organization that provides long-term care services to residents of Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Portage, and Wood Counties. The CCCW Quality committee functions as an advisory body to the Quality Management Division of Community Care of Central Wisconsin in matters pertaining to the quality of services provided directly by CCCW staff and indirectly by service providers under contract with CCCW. The committee currently meets the 4th Wednesday, every other month, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. The committee is comprised of CCCW management and direct care staff, members and member representatives, and contracted service providers. Family Members Helping others about the Family Perspective
Families serve as Family Mentors to Waisman Trainees or UW Hospital Pediatric residents. In this role, families enhance trainees’ sensitivity to the strengths, concerns, joys, and challenges of raising a child or youth with a developmental disability or special health care need by sharing time and family experiences with a Trainee or resident. Families are compensated for offering this mentoring relationship with an honorarium. Contact the Family Mentor Coordinator, Barbara Wagner, [email protected] to learn more about this opportunity.
