Designed for (A) family members of children and youth with developmental disabilities ( birth to 21)
Designed for individuals with developmental disabilities.
Madison between November and May 1 p.m. on Friday and concludes at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
BPDD covers all costs associated with the program, including the training, lodging, meals, and materials.
Facilitated by Lynn Breedlove, former Executive Director of Disability Rights Wisconsin, and Lisa Pugh, Public Policy Coordinator with the Wisconsin Disability Policy Partnership, which includes Disability Rights Wisconsin, the Waisman Center, and BPDD. Parents in Partnership (PIP)
The Parents In Partnership program (PIP) is a four- or five-part leadership opportunity for parents, foster parents, or other care givers who have children, 6-14 years old, or youth 13-21 years old with special needs. Parents will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, support networks, and positive parent-professional partnerships. You will meet with parents, educators, state agency personnel, and other statewide leaders over the course of these five sessions. You will also have time to share your own stories, obtain useful information, and strengthen skills that will enable you to communicate more effectively with educational, medical, and human service providers.
Topic areas may include IDEA and the special education process, policymaking, citizen participation, and community inclusion of youth with special needs. Participants will share information about resources, collaborative teams, advocacy, and conflict management skills.
This program is funded by the Wisconsin Statewide Parent-Educator Initiative (WSPEI), through an IDEA Discretionary Grant from the Department of Public Instruction (DPI).
Parents In Partnership will:
We ask that parents make a commitment to attend all sessions (four or five weekends). In return for your time and energy, the Parents in Partnership program will cover your meals and costs of providing the training. (Other family members may join but you will be responsible for all of their expenses.) Reimbursement for a portion of child care and travel expenses is available for each of the sessions.
Registration
If you are a parent, or care giver of a child/young adult who has a disability and want to be part of this exciting partnership, register soon! Partnership sessions are limited to 25 participants. People selected for Partnership commit themselves to attend all sessions. We encourage couples to participate together, if possible. Single parents are welcome to bring a support person with them to participate in our program, provided this person shares responsibility for your child.

Youth in Partnership with Parents for Empowerment" (YiPPE) transition training
Youth in Partnership with Parents for Empowerment.
This training is for parents and youth (14-21). YiPPE is an opportunity for parents and their children to learn about the transition process in a unique way. Parents and youth will hear from speakers and take part in hands-on activities in parallel programs. While some topics may overlap, parents will be able to enjoy their own sessions while their child(ren) are learning similar information in a youth-friendly format.
What Does It Cost? It is FREE. There is NO cost to you, only your commitment to attend all five weekends, your time and your energy to share, learn and grow.

Pals is a group of parents and other caregivers who meet together four times during a year to learn about available resources, learn more about leadership and advocacy, explore topics of interest to group members, learn how to access county and state resources, meet others with expertise in these areas, and become part of a network of parents and children with disabilities and similar needs.
WHERE: Sessions will be held at facilities located on beautiful Green Lake, near Ripon Wisconsin. All sessions will begin promptly at 4:30pm on Fri. and 4:00pm on Sat. People participating in PALs commit themselves to attend all 4 sessions in their entirety.

Stipends Available: Parents-Birth to age 6/First Time Conference WI FACETS is a partner in the State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) administered by the WI Department of Public Instruction. As a result of this partnership, WI FACETS is able to provide a limited number of parent stipends for parents of children with disabilities (birth to age 6) to attend a "first" professional development opportunity. For brothers and sisters age 5-12 with brothers and sisters with special needs. This gives our children a chance to see they are NOT alone… there are other kids like them! This is an opportunity for them to connect, share common joys and concerns ~ learn about the implications of the siblings’ disability- in a lively, recreational setting.

- Is for families and youth ages 14-21 with disabilities who are in the transition process.
- Topics covered, but not limited to include: leadership and communication skills, health care, education, inclusion, legislation, employment and self-care.
- Participants will be introduced to valuable national, state, and local resources that will help make the transition from high school to work or school much easier.
- Youth will get to know other youth, learn how to make decisions for themselves throughout the transition process, and learn how to be as independent as possible.
- Sessions will take place over five weekends throughout the school year beginning in October. Parents and youth who sign up must attend ALL five sessions. Overnight accommodations and meals are included free of charge.
- In the past - A stipend has been available to families to help offset travel expenses.
