DentalOral health: For families Daily oral care, how to find a dentist, fun oral health activities for children and much more are
available. http://www.chawisconsin.org/ohfamilies.htm Finding affordable dental care for children with special needs can be a challenge. Many private health plans do not cover dental services and, if your child is covered by Medicaid or BadgerCare, finding a dentist who accepts Medicaid and also has openings can be very difficult. There are a couple places online you can look to help find dental care. www.chawisconsin.org/oral-health-resources.htm#locate Wisconsin Primary Health Care Association’s Web site, a resource for everyone who supports, promotes, uses and works in Community Health Centers. Here, you can learn about health care policies that support everyone’s access to a medical home, explore quality improvement strategies, share tactics to provide high quality and culturally competent care, engage in activities to knock down the barriers some Wisconsinites face in the health care system, talk with experts, even find a Community Health Center doctor or dentist to care for you www.wphca.org Wisconsin Dental Association - Community Dental Clinics www.wda.org/media/02/192-reducedratedentalclinics.pdf Fact sheets have been developed for mild to moderate manifestations of a number of special needs conditions. For most conditions there are separate fact sheets for Dental Professionals, Medical Professionals, and Parents and Caregivers. A General Guidance fact sheet is included and is available in Spanish. http://dental.washington.edu/departments/oral-medicine/special-needs-fact-sheets.html -------------------- Oral Health - Autism Speaks - http://www.autismspeaks.org/family-services/tool-kits/dental-tool-kit Dental Tool Kit dental guide and video to provide tips for improving oral hygiene at home, as well as information about how parents and dental professionals can make a visit to the dentist's office less stressful and more productive. Sometimes pictures or books can help explain what to expect. Try to be positive or neutral, even if you are anxious or fearful about the appointment. On the day of the appointment: * Bring a list of all medications your child takes to the dental appointment. * Bring a list of questions or concerns you may have about your child’s teeth. * Share with the dental staff the best way to communicate with your child. * Tell the dental staff things your child might do and the best way to deal with how he or she may act. Suggest things that make your child feel good. Ask for help about different teeth cleaning ideas that will make taking care of your child’s teeth at home easier. -------------------------------- |
